Rep objects inclusion in pro-Jonathan’s advert

A member of the House of Representatives from Nasarawa State, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, on Wednesday denied being part of those who congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan on the celebration of Nigeria’s 53rd Independence.

A national daily (not Daily Trust) had on Tuesday, October 1 published a full-page advert in which 140 PDP members in the House purportedly congratulated President Jonathan on Nigeria’s 53rd Independence anniversary.
Onawo who represents Awe/Doma/Keana Federal Constituency also denied being part of those who were purportedly paid the sum of $25,000 recently to destabilize the leadership of the House.
The lawmaker who spoke at the House chamber during plenary said he was not contacted for any such advert nor did he collect any amount for any purpose.
Onawo also expressed displeasure that the advert caused him a lot of embarrassment with a number of his constituents calling him to ask if he had been given the $25,000. He maintained that of the 140 members whose names appeared on the advert, 22 have so far denied any knowledge.
“It was insinuated that all those whose names appeared on that advert were paid $25,000. I make it clear that I don’t know anything about the advert and the money. My name is Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, but they wrote Mohammed J. Onawo, and I’m the only Onawo in this House; that is why I have to raise my concern,” he said.
